Payload on 3.5Ton lorries depends on specification. The best payload starts at 1250kgs for Daily Specification. At John Oates we offer upgraded options of 3.85, 3.95 and 4.5 ton, to achieve a greater payload.

No matter which specification you choose, John Oates build the horsebox to carry 2 horses, with all vehicles brake tested to 6 ton, to guarantee safety for horse and driver.

Drivers who passed their category B (car) driving test before 1997 have grandfather rights and can drive a 7.5-tonne truck without taking another test. They will have the C1 entitlement on their licence, which covers vehicles from 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes GVW. However, drivers who passed their car driving test from 1 January 1997 will have to take a separate C1 test in order to drive any vehicle weighing in excess of 3.5 tonnes.

This depends on the weight of the horses an the amount of tack, feed, etc. Unless they are small it is unlikely that a 3.5-tonne vehicle will offer enough payload. Please contact us to discuss other options available.

This is the frame/wall that separates the horse area and cab. At John Oates, the heavy-duty frame is tied into both the cab and the body.  All John Oates Horseboxes, have a steel frame wrapped around cab rear, with anti kick bar and optional choice of bum bar, for customers peace of mind. Bulkhead is then Fitted

with 14mm GRP panel, and anti impact stock board or EVA.

All customers are different and have preferences of where they like there tack lockers, at John Oates we can cater to all customers, and have tack lockers situated exactly where customers want the . We offer all sizes of tack lockers.

We offer many types of horse area set ups, from long stall stallion, to breast bar, or even half and half. With John Oates the customer can get exactly what they feel they need to get the horse from A to Z safely.

John Oates offer 3 choices of ramp set up, Full ramp, top flap and barn doors.

How long does a horsebox take to build?
Once the chassis has been sourced and in the production line it will take 6 – 12 weeks.

Do you have a waiting list?
Our waiting list varies depending on current demand and workload. It is usually between 10-12 weeks but please contact us for up to date information. Our stock vehicles are available immediately.

Can I have my horsebox serviced?
Yes! As expert builders of horsebox we have the knowledge and skill to repair your horsebox correctly and get it back on the road as quickly as possible. Please contact us so we can assess the work required.

What is a horsebox health check?
We want your horsebox to provide you with an enjoyable and reliable service. We offer a horsebox health check where we assess the wear and tear of the horsebox and advise any areas that may need repairing or replacing.

Do you manufacture the body or just assemble it?
At John Oates we engineer, design and build your horsebox at our factory. This allows us to control the build quality to ensure you have a horsebox that is reliable, robust and lightweight. Come and take a tour of a factory to see how we build horseboxes.

Do you accept trade-ins?
We offer a selling on behalf of owner service, please contact us for more information.

Do you offer finance?
Yes, we can offer various finance arrangements. Please contact us for details.

We take a £1,200.00 incl. VAT deposit to secure the build slot in our order book, once chassis is sourced, balance of chassis cost to be paid in full. Final payment for build on completion.
